The continuation of the road trip in Norway. Let us journey across the sea to be in the oldest town of Norway:

How did we go there? Follow the E18 road, exit Tønsberg:

Some Roads in Norway are Toll Roads. According to the official website: "When passing an automatic toll collection point without a toll tag a picture is taken of the registration plate of your vehicle. The registration number on the registration plate is checked against the Norwegian Register of Motor Vehicles administered by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration. The owner of the vehicle is sent an invoice containing information about the passage, the vehicle and the amount owed. The invoice is sent by post without any extra fee. This applies to both Norwegian and foreign vehicles.so.... even with non-norwegian car. they snap a picture of the license plate and send an invoice."

The castle rock tower is located on a hill. It was the Norway's largest castle in the 13th century:

From the map you can see how the surroundings look like:

On the left is the sea, here is the view if you walk on the red dashed line:

This medieval castle called "Tønsberg Fortress". Here is the model of the castle rock tower:

It is surrounded by other ruins called "Castrum Tunsbergis." :

At the entrance of this ruin, you will see a relief of the king:

The view from the top of this castle rock tower may give you a hint how the ruins of the buildings looked like in the past:

There are other places for sightseeings such as bunker from WWII and some farmhouses of Vestfold, for more images in our food article: Viking stew.

The town seems to be the Viking settlement in the 9th century, before they even had the kings. The first king of Vestfold named "Halfdan the Black" was the father of King Harald Fairhair, the Battle of Hafrsfjord under his command led to the unification of Norway, so he became the first king of a unified Norway - the King Harald I of Norway. There is a statue of the king of norway at the main entrance, supposedly related to this museum or the town:

In order to visit the castle rock tower, you must get into the Slottsfjellet museum:

We were informed that the King Håkon IV gave the order to build this castle. There are some signatures of the honor visitors at the entrance of this tower:

For more information, you may ask the guide or read some leaflets. It seems to have free entrance on special occasions and some specific days that you may get informed from the hotel or tourist information center. Have a rocky day!
